Emily Urbahn won the Most Valuable Player at the Under 15 Hockey tournament in Timaru over the holidays. The Hawke’s Bay Under 15 team also won the Fair Play Award.
Last weekend, Kaitlin Cotter and Rileigh Knapp played in the NZ Maori Hockey tournament, which was held in Hamilton. They played for Takitimu, which incorporates Hawke’s Bay down to Wellington, and they were fortunate enough to play with four ex Black Sticks/Olympians. There were 12 women’s teams competing and the standard of hockey was absolutely amazing. It was fast and tough – a few of the top teams could easily compete with current National Hockey League teams. Our girls learnt a huge amount over the weekend, especially being guided around the field by such talent.
Kaitlin and Rileigh were both selected in the NZ Maori Under 21 Team, and Rileigh was included in the NZ Maori Senior Women’s Team with Kaitlin as a non-travelling reserve.
