Athletic Sports Day 2009

The ‘Girls of the White and Blue' became girls of the Blue, Green, Gold and Red on Tuesday, March 10th, when they took part in the school's annual Athletic Sports Day. The weather was good at Marewa Park, with a cool start turning into a warm, sunny Hawke's Bay day.

Gold House laid down their challenge to the other houses right from the start. Their well choreographed march across the Park impressed the judges and won them early house points for colour, participation and volume!

Participation in the track and field events that followed was fantastic! Competition was fierce and, across the board, our athletes broke long standing school records. This year's record breakers were:

  • Yr 9         100m                Cassidy Delamere      13.30s
  • Yr 10        800m               Holly Edmonds            2min36:85s
  • Yr 10        3000m             Annie Creagh              11min35:01s
  • Yr 11         Discus             Josie Stockill               22.96m
  • Yr 12&13  High Jump      Emma Sutherland        1.63m
  • Senior       Javelin              Laura Jensen             33.50m

Light relief at the end of the day was provided by the Bus/Hostel/Day 4 x 100m relay and the Yr 13 vs Staff 12 x 100m relay! The Day students won their race, with the Hostel coming in second, their runners welcomed home with a rousing rendition of the Hostel song. A tremendous performance from the Staff team, including Mr Wallace's courageous recovery from an impressive fall at the baton handover, saw the Staff win the final event of the day!
