Chairperson's Report - 2008
We started the year with an almost new line up of officers and team because the daughters of previous committee members had left school. We are proving to be an enthusiastic bunch with a wide variety of talents!
Our first duty of the year was to provide tea and coffee to staff and parents who attended the Parent-Teacher interviews. This was a much appreciated service and we also managed to recruit some new faces for the PTA. My thanks go to the boarders for their help in couriering drinks out to the staff.
The Ball this year was .....WOW! Held on the first Friday of the third term, once again we used the Rodney Green Centennial Hall. Our choice of venue was limited by the large number of students to accommodate: 430 this year. This venue is a real challenge to decorate well but the Ball Committee rose to the challenge and pulled off a truly wondrous night with glorious decorations to fit ‘The Night in Paris' theme. There is some real talent with great vision amongst our senior girls and they were a pleasure to work with. The positive feedback from the night has been amazing and some have said it was the best yet!! As always with these events there was vast planning and organising. A big thank you goes again to all those who worked behind the scenes: the committee, parents and staff who all contributed their time and skills.
The Leavers' Cocktail Party will be held on the last day of school at the War Memorial Hall. This will be a very special night for our Year 13 girls as they say farewell to their school and colleagues. No doubt there will be tears but heaps of laughs as they prepare to launch out into the wide world. We wish them all the very best.
This year the PTA donated $2000 to the school. This was used to display the first Honours Board in the school entrance and to produce a board for future winners. We did not raise as much money as we had hoped this year, due to greater ball expenses and to the final number attending being lower than predicted. However we have some other ideas for 2009 that we expect will boost our coffers.
March 2009 will see the celebration of 125 years of the school and the PTA will be involved in helping at various functions over that weekend. It will be a brilliant celebration for sure.
My thanks go to Mrs Nixon, Ms Downs, Mr Harty and of course the committee members for their support throughout the year. We welcome any new faces and for a parent it is an excellent way of keeping in touch with your daughter's school life.
Do have a Merry Christmas and a safe summer season.
